Regional Data Exchange Hub

What is the Regional Data Exchange Hub?
The District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) announces the Regional Data Exchange Hub (DEH), the nation’s leading program for multi-jurisdictional emergency response collaboration for the nation’s capital and surrounding region. In recognition of the close proximity and shared responsibilities inherent in protecting Washington, DC, the DEH is an essential link to emergency response data in order to coordinate resources and reduce communication challenges posed by unique and urgent situations that could occur in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.

How Does the Regional Data Exchange Hub Work?
The DEH leverages Citywide Data Warehouse's (CityDW) technology to assimilate data from the jurisdictions to keep all emergency responders informed about what is happening in their own location as well as crises in other areas. When jurisdictions share data, the DEH 1) creates a common format for viewing information, 2) maps emergency activity and 3) shows first responders where residents need help and resources the most. Like CityDW, the DEH presents data in a user-friendly interface, enhancing emergency responders’ decision support analysis by displaying results in a consistent visual format to all jurisdictions.

The Regional Data Exchange Hub Impact
DEH leverages CityDW technologies to perform the following:
  • Gather information rapidly and integrate data previously stored on individual jurisdiction systems;
  • Analyze the data to reveal patterns and trends and provide instant information in a variety of graphic forms;
  • Allow queries for convenient access and provide users with information based on location, time segment or subject matter; and,
  • Notify emergency responders and other officials of potential problems instantly or preemptively.
